Elevator Pitch

This application can help people with Coulrophobia (Fear of clowns) can overcome their fear by putting them into a circus with a big clown, the clown will laugh when it comes near the players, however, they can fight it back with the watermelon swords. 

Description

What does the application do?

The main target of the application is to help people with Coulrophobia to overcome and fight back their fear of clowns.

What is the significance of the application of overcoming fear of clowns?

The application is a good option for people to fight back their fear of clowns, they are put into the same small circus with a clown that chases them until a certain distance, after that it will start to laugh at them, players can use the swords that are provided at the center of the circus to stun the clown. 

What is the significance of the interface technology (VR)?

Virtual Reality is a best match for this case since people can have a real feeling that they are in the same room of their fear, this will let the them to face their fear in the most realistic way. Furthermore, they can also try to fight back their fear using the provided weapons, this action will let them to have less fear or even overcome the fear of clowns.

Interaction Design 

Why are the interactions needed in the application?

The interactions in this application are very crucial, without them, users cannot interact with the clowns like picking up the weapons to fight them. They can only run around with the clown behind chasing for them and this is not a good way to overcome their fear.

Picking up weapons

Players can pick up the weapons that are provided to them and hold it to fight the clown chasing them

Fight the clown

Players can use the weapons, hold them and swing it to hit the clown, players can also throw it to the clown to stun it.

Interface Technology

The application is built and launched on Oculus Quest using Unity Engine.

Engaging with available interaction(s)

All of interactions can be done by pressing Oculus Quest controller buttons.

Descriptions of 3D Models

For this application, I only use couple of 3D Models from Unity Store

Clown and Circus

The reason I chose this 3D models is because it looks very scary, and to help people to overcome their fear, we need the scariest things that can horrify the players.

Watermelon Sword

The reason I chose this 3D models is because it looks funny and less violence, we need to help users to feel less violent in the game rather than killing the clown, so I think a kind of weapon that can solve this issue is fruit weapons, and we have watermelon swords.

Academic References

I followed the Oculus for Unity setup guides that were provided by University of Tasmania unit KIT208/724 Virtual and Mixed Reality VR tutorial 1 to setup the start point of the project.

Moreover, I have also followed grabbing interaction for grabbing function to grab and hold the weapons from VR tutorial 2
